Laure Prouvost, Le Consortium
View InfoThis is a runaway story, a story of escape, towards the unknown, a departure for a different place,a will to go far away, leaving everything behind…The exhibition presented at Le Consortium is the first chapter of a story which will resume at the MMK Museum für Moderne Kunst Frankfurt am Main on September 3rd, and at the Kunstmuseum Luzern from October 29th.
These exhibitions were designed as a three-act wandering, in which we are invited to follow paths imposed or suggested by the artist, before attempting to flee from reality, before trying to escape it…At the beginning of the exhibition, our attention is immediately drawn towards a long corridor allowing only for a one-way journey. This linear path leads us towards a succession of video installations, creating a feeling of saturation and forcing us to find a space for decompression.Half-way through the visit, a large chunk of Le Consortium’s wall has been opened letting the gravel from the inner court cover the art centre floor. Here, and for the first time, Laure Prouvost’s work dialogues with the outside.
This space, flooded by daylight and open to the outside, offers us a break from a very dense visit. After this rest area, we continue our journey following a path less controlled by the artist: two doors suggest two possible paths. This individual decision leads us towards more personal and intimate works.Laure Prouvost exhibits works of very diverse textures, oriented towards the question of perception. This exhibition presents a series of immersive, physical and sensitive experiences. It is a moment that demands to be experienced, that requires time and needs to be explored. Laure Prouvost’s works inhabit an exhibition space that has been modified by architecture, atmospheres, lights, smells, where are deployed her installations - which are like a theatre of objects - and her videos in which the visual rhythm and sound play an essential role. One can get lost in Laure Prouvost’s stories, but one can also find oneself again.
Here, between exhaust pipes and fresh air, between identity, family history and migration, between intimate spaces and tunnels, we can flee towards unexpected and unknown environments. It is the story of the necessity for change; with art and art history as an escape perspective… It is also the story of the ephemeral taste of raspberry…
