Heteroclites Encounters: The Form And Method Of Exhibiting Objects
View Info"The Form And Method Of Exhibiting Objects"
Museum and exhibition culture faces several challenges today. The objects stored by museums incorporate problematic dimensions, such as colonial heritage and the respective issues of restitution of objects, identities, environmental conflicts, latent tensions in countries and war zones, in addition to questions of language and translation that, from a philosophical perspective, are the basis of representation.
These “Heteroclite Encounters”, held in Guimarães and Porto, bring together a group of people who have been thinking about these questions, in different fields of knowledge (post-colonial studies, anthropology, architecture, education, sociology, philosophy, etc.). Based on the hybrid and political nature of the CIAJG’s collections, the “Heteroclite Encounters” aim to deepen strategies to negotiate possibilities for institutional action, opening up a debate about the past, heritage and legitimacy that makes it possible to imagine future assemblies in museums and modes of relationship between the collection and the community.
